John “Johnny” Robert Henry, 92, of Indianapolis, passed away on November 15, 2019.
Johnny was born on December 20, 1926 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of William Pollard and Lillie Mae (Carmen) Henry. He married the love of his life, Joyce Kathleen (Wall) Henry on April 11, 1945, in McKinney, Kentucky. Joyce preceded him in death on March 19, 2019. They were married almost 74 years.
He is survived by daughter Mary (Earl “Don”) Johnson of Indianapolis, brothers; David (Joy) of Dry Ridge, Kentucky and James (Susan) of Covington, Kentucky, sisters; Charlotte Rice and Myrtle Crutcher of Florence, Kentucky, granddaughter, Joy (Brad) Armstrong of Indianapolis; grandson, Tim (Lynette) Johnson of Sharpsburg Georgia, great-grandchildren; Robbie, John, Cameron, Mary, Ethan and Logan, and several nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Jr Henry, Chester Henry and Charles Henry, sister; Alma Smith.
John and his wife attended Thompson Road Baptist Church. John was a veteran of the United States Army. John worked for B & O Railroad as well as Amtrak in Beech Grove, Indiana retiring in 1983 as a Pipefitter after a 38 year career.
A Celebration of John Henry’s Life will be held at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, November 21, 2019, at Norman F. Chance Funeral Home, 504 National Avenue, Indianapolis, with Pastor Anthony Slutz officiating. Family and friends are welcome to visit from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service at the funeral home. Military honors will be performed at 12 p.m. at the funeral home.
