Mary Jane Cook, 96, of Indianapolis, died March 4, 2018 peacefully at home. She was born October 7, 1921, at Deaconess Hospital, Indianapolis, and was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Ava Whiteman Rahke, husband Lincoln Edward Cook, 3 brothers Carl Carson, Arthur & Richard Rahke, sister Ruth Rahke Whitsett, and grandchild Michelle Avamae Thacker.
Mary Jane was a 1939 graduate of Southport High School. A veteran of World War II, she served in the US Navy. Enlisting on January 27, 1944 she was stationed in the Communications Division at San Francisco and Oakland California and was discharged January 5, 1946, at Alameda California. After serving in the Navy she came home and worked for Pritchett Accounting and Tax Service.
On May 29, 1954, Mary Jane was married at Center United Methodist Church to Lincoln Edward Cook, after having children she was a stay at home mother and worked from home operating a business keeping books for small businesses and preparing taxes. She was very active in the PTA, a Girl Scout leader, loved to travel, go camping, bowling and card games with family and friends.
Mary Jane was a member of Center United Methodist Church for 67 years, where she was in active participant in the United Methodist Women’s group. For many years she hosted the church quilting club in her home. She is survived by daughters Lisbeth Jane Thacker and Julia Ann Rush (John), grandchildren Thomas Thacker, Angela Thacker Barton(Ryan) and Jason Rush(Stormy), and 7 great grandchildren.
Viewing will be from 10:00 to 12:00pm the Service will follow to be held at Center United Methodist Church 5445 Bluff Road Indianapolis, IN 46217 Thursday March 8th with Reverend Dan Rasmussen Officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, 9700 Allisonville Road Indianapolis, IN 46250. NF Chance Funeral & Cremation Service will be in charge of arrangements.
