Duane E. Lakes, 74, of Indianapolis passed away November 15, 2020 at Franciscan Health Indianapolis. He was born on October 17, 1946, in Richmond Indiana to the late Estell and Celia Mullins Lakes. Duane was married to Mary Ellen Grimes on August 12, 1971. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force. Duane was employed at General Motors, working at both the Truck and Bus and Allison Transmission plants for 30 years, retiring in 1999. He would go on to be a founding member and was currently the Lead Pastor at Rivers of Life Fellowship, in Greenwood.
Duane is survived by his wife Mary E. Lakes; children Kimberla Lakes (Michele Simich), Theresa Miller and Shawn Lakes (Tara); fourteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He is preceded in passing by his parents and siblings Thelma Owens, Elsie Click, Ella Lakes and Wayne Lakes.
Service for Duane will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 21, 2020, at Norman F. Chance Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 504 East National Avenue, Indianapolis. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 20, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment, with Military Honors, will follow at Youngs Creek Cemetery, Franklin, Indiana. The family will host a Fellowship Meal at Rivers of Life Fellowship, 607 N Meridian (Old Meridian-Not Hwy 135), Greenwood, IN 46143, following the committal service.
