(Evelyn) Lorraine Hoskins
(Evelyn) Lorraine Hoskins 87, passed away from congestive heart failure on November 16, 2020 in Greenwood, Indiana. She was born in Wildie, Kentucky to the late Charlie and Ruth Huff. She grew up in Conway, Kentucky and graduated from Rockcastle County High School in 1952. On November 29 of the same year, Lorraine married her high school sweetheart Floyd Hoskins of Brodhead, Kentucky. They moved to Indianapolis, Indiana immediately after the wedding. Floyd died May 3, 1976.
Lorraine is survived by her children: Teresa Hoskins, Charles (Marcia) Hoskins, and Anita (Robert) Johnson. Her surviving grandsons are: Travis (Vicki Spears) Hoskins and Christopher (Sara) Hoskins. She, also, leaves behind seven great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren; as well as, her sister Edna (John) Williams.
When the children were all in school, Lorraine entered Indiana Central Collage (now Indianapolis University). She completed her Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1968 and began a 27 year teaching career at Otis T. Brown Elementary School #20. While teaching fulltime and raising a young family, she continued her education at Butler University for a Masters Degree.
Whether it was teaching the young generations of Lorraine's own family, or in the classroom, she worked on the needed book skills, but was a generous mentor in helping children find their own self-motivations towards the joy of learning for life.
Lorraine was a participating member of Garfield Park Baptist Church till her health begin to affect her daily life. She maintained long caring friendships with the teachers at School #20's “Lunch Bunch.” She was a skilled seamtress, and had the ability to do several arts and crafts. Lorraine's skills extended to the ability to repair just about anything around the house; skills learned from her father on their farm growing up. In later life, she became fond of solving word puzzles.
Lorraine will always be remembered for her loving warmth and quiet influences. At her request, a small private family gathering will take place to honor and celebrate her life this comimg Spring. A Celebration of Lorraine's life will be held in the Spring of 2021.
