Gary E. "Mert" Humphrey Obituary

Gary E. “Mert” Humphrey, 70, of Indianapolis, passed away February 27, 2021. He was born February 2, 1951, in Indianapolis, to the late Elmer Thomas and Mildred Louise Pierpont Humphrey. Mert was employed in the shipping department at Union Carbide (Praxair) for 25 years. Prior he worked production at Bemis Bag and was a machinist at Christie Machine Works. Mert was a 1970 graduate of Southport High School. He enjoyed all forms of NASCAR, fishing, the Dallas Cowboys and watching college basketball, especially the Butler Bulldogs.

Mert lived a spiritual, God fearing life and was very prayerful. He is survived by his daughter Lindsey Lee Humphrey; siblings JoAnn Oakes (William), Jerry Humphrey (Wanda), John Humphrey (Mary), Rick Humphrey (Teresa), Joe Humphrey (Charlene); and eighteen nieces and nephews. He is preceded in passing by his son William Ryan Humphrey, parents, and siblings Joyce Allen, George Humphrey, Jack Humphrey, and James Humphrey.

The family wishes a special “Thank You” to Jason Humphrey for his extra love and care for his Uncle Mert.
