Our Dear Mother Georgia McIva “Dixie” Spear sadly passed away on July 20th at the age of 96 at Bethany Village Nursing Home. The family will be forever grateful for the love and care she received from the Bethany Staff. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Willie Densel Spear, three brothers, Sammy, Hubert and Ray Short, and Sister Pauline Blythe. She is survived by her two daughters, Patti Spear and Cathy (Tony) Denease, Grandchild Angie Denease, four great grandchildren Brennen (Sophia), Kenidi, Kross, and Stassi Seaman and Sister Ruby Skipworth and many nieces and nephews. Dixie was born in Kettle, Kentucky on November 19th, 1926. A dedicated Christian from birth, who learned everything she needed for life’s journey from her loving parents, George and Tessie Short. She was a Member of the Garfield Christian Church. Dixie loved to read, especially the Bible. Dixie and Densel married on November 9th, 1944. In January of 1945, Densel was drafted into the Army and served two years. After returning home, they made their way to Indianapolis and began their family. Dixie was a gentle, kind, loving woman who devoted her entire life to her family and girls. Dixie was a Salon Stylist her entire career. She owned and operated Dixie’s Beauty Shop. She opened her home and Salon with Love and kindness to all. Her clients, friends and family knew her as a stylish, classy, strong and hard working woman. She was adored by all! Services will be held at Norman F Chance Family Funeral Home, 504 National Ave on Wednesday, July 26th. Friends may call from 11am-2pm. Funeral service will be at 2pm with burial at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
