Joel Kevin Matthews

Joel Kevin Matthews, 69, passed on peacefully on April 18th, 2025. He was born to Joseph Theodore Matthews and Martha Jean Matthews on February 24th, 1956 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

He is survived by his wife, Jill Matthews; his twins, Logan Matthews and Shelby Matthews; four sisters, Nancy Fitch, Kathleen Matthews, Marta Matthews, and Joyce Ford; two nieces, Melanie Bromstrup and Lauren Braniff; and six nephews, David Matthews, Dana Matthews, Kyle Matthews, Joseph Braniff, Michael Pitzer, and Shawn Matthews. Preceding Joel in death are his parents, Joseph and Martha Matthews; his siblings Dennis Matthews, Dana Matthews, Mark Matthews, and Marlene Matthews; and his nephew Donnie Matthews.

Joel graduated from Pike High School on the northwest side of Indianapolis in 1974. Afterwards he served in the Navy between 1978 and 1982 and worked hard as a union brick mason for decades afterward, retiring in late 2021.

A military funeral service will be held for Joel on Monday, May 19th, at Crown Hill National Cemeter 2:00 p.m. where he will be interred. Family and friends of Joel are welcome.
