Kenneth “Rusty” Alan Ryan, 71, passed away Friday Dec. 10, 2021 at the Roudebush VA Medical Center.
He was born in Indianapolis May 14, 1950 at St. Vincent hospital in Indianapolis. Son of Arvil “Red” Eugene and Gladys Mae, brother of Lynith G. Brown, Trenton D. (Jo Ann) and Jerrold K. (Rebecca).
He graduated in June 1968 from Southport High school, where he was an important member of the Cross Country and the Track and Field team. He then joined the U.S. Marine Corps, where he proudly served during the Vietnam War. He was Honorably Discharged while being a Sergeant on April 23, 1974. Finished his Baccalaureate degree in Business and Administration at Tarrant County Junior College. Married Carmen Luz on Feb. 25, 1972 in Santiago, Chile during his active service at the U. S. Embassy.
Gave birth to their 3 children, Ana María (Ricardo Fuentes), Daniela María (Luis Ignacio Marín)and Kenneth Arvil Simón (Victoria). His grandchildren are Ricardo (24), Diego (13), Emilia (12), Juan Pablo (10) and Ignacio (7). He lived in Chile over 35 years, where he worked as a mechanic, computer technician, business administrator and independent entrepreneur and also enjoyed doing sports like running marathons and playing basketball, among others, and inspired his children to become athletes.
He came back to the U.S. in Dec. 2008 and went to an early retirement due to service related disability. Lived his last years in his home at Greenwood, where he enjoyed rides on his Harley Davidson, having a drink and a cigarette, serving as Honor Guard for veteran funerals, collecting coins, watching his favorite shows on TV and lately, the company of his son and his daughter in law. His illness was finally stronger than him and the Lord decided to take him by his side surrounded by his children.
Military Honors Graveside Services for Rusty will be on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. in the mausoleum chapel at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
Final Arrangements have been entrusted to and handled by Norman F. Chance Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
