Virginia Brunnemer Obituary

Virginia (Ginnie) Mae Brunnemer, 96 passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 22, 2021.  She was born on July 7th, 1924, and was the daughter of John and Dora Poole.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A Brunnemer, and her brothers Ivan Poole, Ira Poole, Jack Poole and her sisters Helen May and Pauline Johnson.

She was born in Rensselaer, Indiana, lived in Monon, Indiana and attended high school in Francesville, Indiana.  She moved to Indianapolis in 1942.  It was during World War II, when she met her husband, Robert A. Brunnemer. He was on a 52 day leave from the Marines; they were married on July 12, 1947 (after knowing each other for only 24 days!!)  It had to be love at first sight, since they were married for almost 73 years.  She was extremely devoted to her children and grandchildren, and she made family gatherings a priority in her life.  She regularly celebrated birthdays (baking the cakes herself-no store bought cakes for her!), anniversaries, or just inviting the kids, grandkids and their friends over for Sunday dinner, or having a party in the backyard pool.  She also enjoyed opening her house to many of her relatives when they needed a place to stay, including her mom, her sister, brother and many of her in-laws, too.  She was an excellent cook, and she was famous for her lasagna, fried chicken, cinnamon rolls, and lemon lush.  Her loves included painting still life portraits and gardening.  But most of all, she had a deep love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

As a result, she raised her family in a good Christian home. Ginnie was a great role model to her children and read her Bible faithfully and attended church any time the doors were open.  Ginnie was a long time member of both Thompson Road Baptist Church and Lighthouse Baptist Church.  Everyone who knew Ginnie would say she was a hard worker, selfless, charitable and always kept a clean house-you would even see her sweep the patio or pull weeds while she was in her 90’s.  Plus, you never saw ‘dust bunnies’ under the beds in her house.  She will be missed by all of her loved ones, and we will rejoice one day in heaven when we see her again.

She is survived by her three children.  Robert W. (Carolyn) Brunnemer, Sondra (Mike) Love, and Brent (Tammie) Brunnemer.  She has 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.  In lieu of flowers, it is recommended to donate to the charity of your choice.  Viewing will be at 11:00am with services at 1:00pm on Thursday June 24, 2021 at Norman F. Chance Funeral Home, 504 National Avenue in Indianapolis.  On-line condolences may be sent to and may be seen at Singletonmortuary.com.  Interment will be at Mt Pleasant Cemetery, Greenwood, IN.
