71 year old William “Bill” Nickels of Indianapolis passed away peacefully at home with family at his side. Bill was born to Lawrence and Estelle Nickels in Kingsport Tennessee, but later moved to Indianapolis with family. Bill was a avid poker player and boxer. Attending Rock Steady Boxing until the year of his death. Bill was a graduate of Greenwood High School. In 1976 Bill graduated from college with his associates degree and completed an electrical apprenticeship while on his GI bill. Later he worked for Diamond Chain for almost 20 years. Previous to that, Bill served 2 years in Vietnam with the Army where he was a paratrooper. In 1973 after returning home from Vietnam, Bill married the love of his life Margie and had 2 children. They were married for 45 years before Margie’s death in 2018. Bill is preceded in death by both parents and wife.
Bill leaves behind Daughter Renee (Anthony) and Son Garrett; 5 grandchildren Victor, Drake, Gunner, Preston, and Cooper. Also surviving is his sister Rita (David) and their daughters, Nancy and Deshawn.
Services will be1:30p.m. Tuesday, November 16th, 2021 at Norman F. Chance Funeral Home and Cremation Service with calling from Noon until the hour of service. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery where he will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife Margie.
